Celebrating Fugee students’ STEM Journey with Haskell APAC

Between June 25th to July 23rd, our Year 7, Year 8, and Year 9 students embarked on an exciting nine-week Project-Based Learning STEM journey supported by the dedicated Haskell team. Over those six weeks, our students rolled up their sleeves to explore real-world challenges, get hands-on in prototype creations, and discover innovative ideas.
Haskell’s support holds a special place in Fugee’s story. When we first moved Fugee School to our current building last August, Haskell joined us as a CSR partner during their Day of Service. Their team helped set up furniture for our library, painted a vibrant mural, and organized books, transforming our humble learning spaces into a place where students could read, learn, and dream bigger.
This year, they expanded their contribution from building spaces to directly teaching our students. Bringing together a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, project leads, and specialists, Haskell shared valuable industry expertise, mentored students, and guided them in crafting working prototypes centered around renewable energy.
The culmination of this six-week program coincided with our Term 2 Parent-Teacher Meeting in August, a cherished gathering where parents and educators assemble to celebrate student growth, navigate challenges, and strengthen the support network around our children.
Taking center stage as brave young innovators, our students proudly presented their scientific models to their families and teachers. Among the standout prototypes was a Piezoelectric City Model, which demonstrated how mechanical pressure can be converted into clean electrical energy to power future smart cities.

Our students also showcased a Mini Greenhouse, which explored sustainable agriculture, microclimates, and botany to address real-world food security and environmental issues.

Seeing our students stand tall, articulate complex scientific principles, and take pride in their original work was a powerful testament to what happens when young people are given the right tools, mentorship, and encouragement to explore.
To round off a day filled with shared achievement, parents, teachers, students, and partners gathered over a delicious lunch spread generously sponsored by Haskell and lovingly prepared by refugee chefs from PichaEats. Sharing a meal prepared by fellow community members added a touch of warmth and connection to an already memorable afternoon.
We extend our heartiest gratitude to the Haskell team for their dedicated mentorship and generous sponsorship, to PichaEats for nourishing our community with incredible food, and to our wonderful teachers and parents for their steadfast partnership in our students' journey. To our brilliant Year 7, 8, and 9 innovators: keep asking questions, keep experimenting, and keep reaching for the stars!
At Fugee School, we believe education should always go further than simply building a habit of reading and studying. We also aim to spark genuine curiosity, nurturing practical problem-solving skills, and instilling the confidence young learners need to shape their own futures.
